Drum Tower
The Drum Tower, facing the Bell Tower on the other side od the square, is also a symbol of the Xi’an. It was built during the Ming Dynasty, 4 years before the building of the Bell Tower . According to legend, the drum and the bell were hanging for telling time in ancient times. The bell was beat at dawn, and the drum was struck at dusk to indicate the end of the day. On the Drum Tower’s first floor, there hanged many large drums in the hall. And each of them was decorated with intrinsic and pretty Chinese writing, which stands for good fortune. These exhibited drums are not allowed to touch, but near the front entrance there is an extra one which visitors can pose for pictures for a small fee.
